    SNOW MONK CAMP SET UP

The camp is situated at the top end of the Salli village on the road leading to Kareri village. The road will soon be connecting to Ghera and Naddi villages of Dharamshala in the near future. The view from the camp is panoramic. It offers sweeping view of the Khauli valley and the river with snow clad mountains to the north, spell binding sights of sunset towards the Khanol village to the west and spectacular sight of the huge reservoirs of Pong &RanjitSagar to the south.

The camp has 12 accommodation tents with all amenities for an adventure enthusiast. One can walk into it as tents have clear 7ft clear height. The tents are large enough for a family also. All tents have electricity with charging points, so as to charge the cameras for the next day to capture those beautiful life time images.

Toilets & bathing rooms are neat, clean and modern in a separate area keeping in mind the environment. We take pride in saving water, recycling whatever we can. Our towels are washed in cold water to launder as it takes a lot of energy to heat up water — multiply that by the number of loads, and that's a big footprint

Dhaualadhars, are themselves a mountain range quite apart from any other mountain range in the Himalayas. It is the outer most part of Himalayas. The rock faces of this granite range are so sharply cut that they fail to hold snow for long as a result you see snow in the gullies and on top. During the trek we walk through some Gaddi tribal villages. Gaddi is a semi nomadic shepherd tribe whose main occupation is agriculture and rearing of sheep and goat. The gaddi shepherds spend the whole summer on the mountains and during winter come back to the plains of Kangra with their flock of sheep and goat.

Kareri Lake is a high altitude, shallow, fresh water lake south of the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km North West of Dharamsala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Its surface is 3000 metres above the sea level. Snow melting from the Dhauladhar range serves as the source of the lake and a stream, Nyund is the outflow. Since the source is fresh melting snow and the lake is shallow, water visibility is very high and in most places, the lake bed can be seen. The new latest and shortest route for the trek starts from Salli village and one can use Snow Monk Camp as the base. Snow Monk camp offers modern washrooms and toilets and delicious meals. It makes all the sense to use it as a base for treks such as Kareri lake.
